What is the big deal about coaching? Well… coaching is about helping others toward self-discovery, self-awareness, and making choices that ultimately
lead to improving performance, attaining goals, and achieving results. Who wouldn’t want that? The coaching process involves asking powerful questions
and having conversations that empower others to create and implement solutions unique to them. A coach provides encouragement and support to their
clients as they continue to make important life-changing choices.
According to CNN.com, “Once used to bolster troubled staffers, coaching now is part of the standard leadership development training for elite executives
and talented up-and-comers at IBM, Motorola, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and Hewlett Packard.” Susanne Gargiulo for CNN points out that, “If you want to
get to the top, you need a coach.” Aubrey Malphurs in his book, Maximizing Your Effectiveness, identifies the manner in which the coaching process
accomplishes effective leadership development – the coach works, not by providing answers, but by asking questions through which the leader gains
new insights and takes action.
Coaching in organizations helps employees perform more effectively and communicate better.
According to HR Monthly, studies show business and executive coaching to be the most effective means for achieving sustainable growth, change and
development in the individual, group, and organization.
